The Warsaw City Council has banned the sale of alcoholic beverages in retail stores during nighttime hours. The ban aims to reduce disturbances associated with excessive alcohol consumption.

The measure will be implemented throughout the city from June 1st. Similar bans have already been implemented in other Polish cities, such as Krakow, Szczecin, Lodz, and Wroclaw.

According to Eurostat data for 2022, Poland ranks second in Europe in alcohol-related deaths, behind Slovenia.

Alcohol sales will only be permitted in restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues, as well as in the duty-free shops at Warsaw Chopin Airport. Businesses that do not comply will face fines or lose their alcohol sales licenses.
