Balkans Face First Heatwave with 40°C and Drought

The Balkans are experiencing the first heatwave of the summer, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in Bosnia. In Croatia, areas around Zagreb and the eastern part of the country are on high alert. In Bosnia, authorities are warning of temperatures up to 40°C in Mostar.
The Federal Institute of Meteorology of Bosnia recommends avoiding outdoor activities, especially for the elderly and children. At least three heatwaves are expected by August. June 2025 recorded the lowest rainfall in 135 years. In Serbia, temperatures will range between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius.
Bakir Krajinovic noted that in the last 20 years, meteorological records have been linked to climate change.
