Russian Strike Destroys Energy Infrastructure in Kharkiv

A Russian strike has destroyed a critical energy infrastructure facility in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov. The attack is part of an ongoing campaign that has caused power and heating outages for millions of Ukrainians.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened a council to expedite damage repair efforts. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced measures to address the energy disruptions, including allowing businesses and government institutions to increase energy imports. School holidays in Kyiv have been extended until February 1st.

Terekhov did not specify what type of infrastructure was hit, but assured that crews are working to repair the damage. Kharkiv, located near the Russian border, is frequently attacked. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that the extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that a call for funds has been organized to address energy problems, with Norway pledging $200 million. Russian attacks have also intensified on port infrastructure in Odesa.
