Rose Dugdale: From Elite to the IRA

Rose Dugdale, the daughter of a wealthy British family, abandoned the elite to join the Irish Republican Army (IRA). She participated in bombings and the 1974 art theft from Alfred Beit's collection.
Born in 1941, Dugdale renounced her family's wealth and social expectations. She studied at Oxford, where she became politicized and involved in radical actions.
In 1974, she participated in a failed hijacking and subsequently in the theft of artworks, including paintings by Johannes Vermeer and Francisco Goya. She was arrested and sentenced to nine years in prison, where she gave birth to her son.
After her release in 1980, she remained committed to the IRA. She died in 2024 without regretting her actions.
