Legendary Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91, his company announced on Thursday, September 4. "With immense sadness, the Armani Group announces the death of the creator, founder and tireless driving force behind it: Giorgio Armani," the fashion house said in a statement.

Armani was synonymous with modern Italian style and elegance, leading a company with annual revenues of approximately 2.3 billion euros. Although he had been forced to withdraw from his team's shows at Milan Men's Fashion Week in June due to health issues, his legacy remains.

A memorial viewing will be held on Saturday and Sunday in Milan, followed by a private funeral.

Born in Piacenza, Armani initially studied medicine before turning to fashion. He had a long-term relationship with his business partner, fashion designer Sergio Galeotti, who died in 1985.
