BBC Executives Resign After Criticism Over Trump Speech Editing

BBC Director-General Tim Davie and BBC News CEO Deborah Turness have submitted their resignations following criticism that a documentary misled viewers by manipulating a speech by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The criticism concerned the editing of a speech by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The BBC was accused of failing to maintain political neutrality in its reporting.

BBC Chairman Samir Shah expressed his regret over Davie's resignation, acknowledging his contribution to the organization for 20 years.

The criticism focused on how the Panorama program allegedly edited Trump's speech on January 6, 2021, creating the impression that he was encouraging the riots at the Capitol.

In the documentary, Trump appeared to tell his supporters to 'march to the Capitol' and 'fight like hell,' a comment he actually made at a different point in his speech.
