Five people were killed and two injured when a vehicle struck a landmine in a forest in the Zhytomyr region, near the border with Belarus. The incident occurred on Friday when the car entered a mined zone.
According to Ukrainian police, the victims, aged 19 to 65, were cutting wood in the area. Photos show the wreckage of the vehicle and warning signs for mines.
Ukrainian authorities have mined parts of the border areas for fear of a Russian invasion from the north. In another incident, a man was injured in a nearby forest by a landmine explosion.
Meanwhile, three people were killed and 16 injured by Russian strikes in other regions of Ukraine, including the Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson regions.
