Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was released on November 10 following a decision by the Paris Court of Appeal, after 20 days of detention. He is now under judicial supervision.

In a social media post, Nicolas Sarkozy expressed his gratitude for the support he received and stated his determination to prove his innocence. 'As I regain my freedom and my family, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all those who wrote to me, supported me, and defended me. Your thousands of messages of support deeply moved me and gave me the strength to endure this ordeal,' he said.

Nicolas Sarkozy added: 'The law has been applied. Now I will prepare for the appeal. My energy is focused solely on proving my innocence. The truth will prevail. This is a lesson that life teaches us. The rest of the story remains to be written.'

Nicolas Sarkozy had been convicted in connection with the Libyan financing of his 2007 presidential campaign. The retrial is expected to take place in March.
