Mertz: No Indications of Increased Attack Risk in Germany Due to Iran

Chancellor Friedrich Mertz has assured that there are no indications of an increased risk of attacks within Germany due to the situation with Iran. However, he added that additional security measures are being taken to protect Jewish, Israeli, and American institutions.
Speaking from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Wiesbaden, Mertz stated that while there is no immediate increased threat, security measures are being strengthened and the presence of security forces is being increased, particularly around Israeli, Jewish, and American institutions. "Their protection is of utmost importance to us," he emphasized.
Referring to the strengthening of the BKA, Mertz stated that it is a reaction to external threats and an attempt to correct policy decisions regarding irregular migration. Today, the BKA employs 8,000 people with a budget of almost 1.3 billion euros.
The BKA is focusing on utilizing artificial intelligence and biometrics. An "active defense" is being created against cyberattacks, according to Mertz. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt emphasized that Germany is a target of hybrid warfare.
