Mexico: 11 Killed in Shooting at Party in Irapuato

At least 11 people were killed and 20 injured in a shooting at a party in the city of Irapuato, central Mexico, according to local authorities.
The Guanajuato State Attorney General's Office reported that 20 people are hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Initial reports mentioned children among the victims, but it was confirmed that only one of the deceased was a minor, aged 17.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that an investigation into the incident is underway. Local media reported that the party was held to celebrate the Nativity of John the Baptist.
Guanajuato has been one of the regions of Mexico plagued by violent incidents, due to competition between criminal organizations for control of drug trafficking.
On Tuesday, five other people were killed in various areas of the State, in separate incidents.
