The explosion occurred in the Vallecas district, near a busy bar, around 15:00 (local time). Initial reports indicated 25 injuries, with three in serious condition.

Spanish media suggest that a gas leak likely caused the explosion, but Inmaculada Sanz, an official from the Madrid City Council, stressed that it is too early to draw conclusions.
