A 23-year-old nationalist activist is brain dead after a clash between antifascists and nationalists in Lyon, France, on Thursday night. The incidents began on the sidelines of events and spread to the surrounding streets.

The 23-year-old, identified by BFMTV as Quentin D., was taken to a hospital with a head injury. The Lyon prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into aggravated assault.

The incidents started near a lecture by MEP Rima Hassan, from the far-left France Unbowed, and author Guillaume Ancel. Antifascists organized a rally against the lecture, while members of the Némésis collective, who identify as feminists, were attacked.

Reportedly, Quentin D. tried to defend members of Némésis when he was attacked. He fell to the ground and was kicked in the head. He was taken to a hospital where he was diagnosed with brain death.

Némésis announced that it would file a complaint for the attack against its activist.
