Lecornu Proposes Pension Reform Freeze Until Presidential Elections

French Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, has proposed suspending the pension reform until the presidential elections. The proposal was made from the floor of the National Assembly.
Lecornu called on parliamentarians not to use the budget vote as a pretext to overthrow the government. He stated that there would be no increase in the retirement age limit until January 2028.
The suspension of the reform is a condition of the Socialist Party not to vote against the Lecornu government. The Prime Minister stressed that the government is ready for dialogue on the future of the pension system, acknowledging the reactions caused by the previous reform.
Lecornu also presented the main points of the draft budget for 2026, highlighting the aim to reduce the deficit below 5% of GDP.
