Lampedusa: At Least 19 Migrants Dead in Shipwreck

At least 19 migrants have died in a shipwreck off the coast of Lampedusa on Wednesday (1/4). According to reports, 58 people were rescued by the Italian Coast Guard, which organized a search and rescue operation 85 nautical miles from Lampedusa, in a Libyan search and rescue area.

Of those rescued, seven, including a small child, are hospitalized with hypothermia. The causes of the shipwreck are attributed to adverse weather conditions prevailing in the area.
