Kenya: Investigation into Mass Deaths of Cult Members

Authorities in Kenya are investigating mass deaths of cult members. A court ordered the exhumation of bodies, examining potential murders or suicides.
The investigation focuses on 11 suspects related to the deaths on the outskirts of Malindi. Authorities suspect many individuals starved or were strangled, potentially due to extreme religious beliefs.
In 2023, over 400 bodies were found in Shakahola Forest in a similar case. The cult leader, Paul Mackenzie, faces charges of murder and terrorism.
Police have ordered autopsies, toxicology, and genetic testing on the bodies.
