Catherine Connolly: Landslide Victory in Irish Presidential Election

Catherine Connolly has emerged victorious in the Irish presidential election, with her opponents conceding defeat following the first unofficial results.
With 64% of the votes counted, Connolly has garnered 64% of the vote, while Heather Humphreys follows with 29% and Jim Gavin with 7%. Voter turnout reached just 40%, with invalid ballots reaching a historical high of 13%.
Connolly, a former clinical psychologist and lawyer, was first elected to Parliament in 2016 and served as vice-president of the Irish Lower House. She has been critical of the European Union.
The final results are expected later today.
