Meloni Rejects Wealth Tax in Italy

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has rejected the opposition's call for a special tax on large fortunes. In a post, Meloni assured that her government would not implement such measures.
The secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, had proposed a Europe-wide tax for those with millions. Nicola Fratoianni of the "Italian Left" criticized Meloni for increasing poverty.
Maurizio Landini, secretary of the Cgil, proposed a 1% tax on assets over 2 billion euros to support health, education and employment. Former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte expressed doubts about the effectiveness of over-taxation.
