Spain: Anger Over Deadly Floods in Valencia One Year Later

Strong reactions have emerged in Spain, one year after the deadly floods that hit the Valencia region. During a memorial service for the victims, residents expressed their anger towards the regional president, Carlos Mazón, demanding his resignation.
The floods, which claimed the lives of more than 230 people, caused immense destruction. Residents accuse the right-wing government of Valencia of disastrously managing the tragedy.
At the memorial service, relatives of the victims and mayors of 78 communities affected by the floods expressed their grief. King Felipe and Queen Letizia, as well as Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, attended the event.
In the town of Paiporta, where 56 people lost their lives, a three-day mourning period has been declared. Pharmacists and residents paid tribute to the victims, while grief is widespread throughout the region.
More than 130,000 vehicles were swept away by the mudslides, and thousands of homes were destroyed. To this day, two people remain missing.
