Spain: Sánchez Admits Inadequate Fire Prevention

The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, admitted that the fire prevention policy in Spain was "clearly inadequate", following the devastating fires of August.
Sánchez stressed the need for immediate action and cooperation, presenting a "national pact against the climate emergency".
He cited the absence of prevention plans, the lack of analysis and forecasting tools, and the insufficient staffing of fire services in some regions as contributing factors.
Sánchez emphasized that fires must be addressed year-round and referred to inadequate land management and the "climate emergency" as additional factors.
He urged action to avoid future disasters.
