Spain: Wave of Political Resignations Over False Degrees
Share on:

A wave of resignations has swept through the Spanish political scene as it is revealed that several politicians falsely declared academic degrees on their resumes.

Noelia NĂșñez, a rising star of the People's Party, resigned after admitting that she had not completed her studies in Law and Public Administration. The People's Party and the Socialist Party called on their members to check their resumes, resulting in the discovery of other cases.

Ana Milån, an official in the regional government of Madrid, admitted to errors in her resume, while Ignacio Igera, a member of Vox, resigned when it was revealed that the study program he claimed to have attended did not exist. José María Ángel of the Socialist Party also resigned due to allegations of degree forgery.

Furthermore, Juan Manuel Moreno and Pedro RolĂĄn were forced to correct or remove degrees from their resumes. Pablo Casado had claimed to hold a master's degree from Harvard, which turned out to be a three-day seminar.

Carmen MontĂłn resigned as Minister of Health for plagiarism, while Cristina Cifuentes had been accused of falsely declaring a master's degree.

Yolanda DĂaz, the Deputy Prime Minister, argued that the discussion about degrees is "classist" and that politics should be open to everyone, regardless of their academic education.
