Spain: 10 Tons of Cocaine Seized on Ship

Spanish police seized 10 tons of cocaine from a cargo ship in the Atlantic Ocean. The operation led to the arrest of 13 people linked to a multinational drug trafficking network.
The drugs were hidden in 294 sacks within a salt cargo. The operation was carried out in cooperation with the American DEA, as well as the authorities of France, Portugal and Brazil.
The ship, flying the flag of Cameroon, was destined for Europe and came from Brazil. The seizure is considered the largest ever made on the high seas by the Spanish police.
In October 2025, Spanish police seized 6.5 tons of cocaine near the Canary Islands, while a year earlier 13 tons were found in the port of Algeciras.
Spain is considered a major gateway for cocaine into Europe due to its ties with Latin America and its geographical location.
