Spain: Protest in Valencia One Year After Deadly Floods

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Valencia, Spain, one year after the deadly floods of October 2024, which claimed the lives of 229 people. The protesters honored the victims and protested the authorities' handling of the disaster.
Residents and those affected denounced delays in issuing warnings and sending rescue teams. The central government in Madrid and the local administration blame each other. Residents are calling for the resignation of the regional president, Carlos Mazón, whom they accuse of negligence.
According to a poll, 71% of Valencia residents believe that Mazón should resign. A memorial ceremony will be held on Wednesday, attended by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and King Felipe VI.
