Ireland: Presidential Election – Katherine Connolly Leads

Ireland is holding presidential elections today, with leftist candidate Katherine Connolly considered the frontrunner against Heather Humphreys.

Polling stations opened at 07:00 local time. Results are expected tomorrow, Saturday, evening.

Katherine Connolly, an independent left-wing MP, is supported by opposition parties, including the Greens and Sinn Féin. She has expressed positions against increasing military spending and in favor of the country's neutrality.

Heather Humphreys comes from the center-right Fine Gael party.

The number of candidates is the smallest since 1990.
