German Nurse Sentenced to Life for Killing Patients

A German nurse has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of 10 patients and the attempted murder of 27 others. The crimes were committed between December 2023 and May 2024 at a hospital in Wuerselen, western Germany.
Prosecutors argued that the nurse, whose name has not been released, administered drugs and sedatives to elderly patients to reduce his workload during night shifts. Specifically, he administered large doses of morphine and midazolam.
The Aachen court stated that the accused showed a lack of empathy towards the patients. Authorities are investigating other suspicious cases, and exhumations are being carried out to identify potential victims.
The nurse was arrested in 2024. The court stated that his crimes were of "particular gravity," which will prevent his early release after 15 years. He has the option to appeal.
