Germany: US Sanctions Do Not Target Rosneft Subsidiaries

The German Ministry of Economy stated that the recent US sanctions against Rosneft do not target its German subsidiaries. The ministry has requested "further clarification" from Washington regarding fuel supplies.
The US imposed sanctions on Russia's two largest oil producers, Rosneft and Lukoil, following Vladimir Putin's refusal to end the war in Ukraine.
The German ministry reported receiving assurances from US authorities that the sanctions would not target Rosneft's German subsidiaries, which have been under Berlin's supervision since 2022. However, it called on Washington to provide "further and legally sound clarifications" regarding this exemption.
Rosneft has significant operations in Germany, reflecting the energy cooperation between the two countries before the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
