Germany: Condemnation of Violence and Extremism in Paratrooper Unit
Share on:

The German government has condemned incidents of violence and extremism within a paratrooper unit, specifically the 26th Parachute Regiment based in Zweibrücken. The investigation was launched following complaints of sexist attacks, drugs, and the use of far-right symbols.

Dozens of paratroopers have been implicated, with approximately 20 soldiers already dismissed and the unit commander replaced. The Zweibrücken prosecutor's office has received 19 complaints regarding drugs, incitement to hatred, and the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.

In 2020, a unit of the German army's special forces was almost dissolved due to ties with a neo-Nazi organization. Defense Ministry spokesman Kenneth Harms stated that far-right extremism and inappropriate sexist behavior are not tolerated in the Bundeswehr.
