Germany: Flight Disruptions in Berlin Due to Drone
Share on:

A drone spotted near Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) caused significant flight delays and cancellations on Friday evening. Police are investigating the area around the airport.

Flights were suspended for two hours, from 21:00 to 23:00 (Greek time), resulting in 11 aircraft being diverted to other airports, including Leipzig, Dresden, and Hamburg. Three flights to London, Birmingham and Stockholm were canceled.

The police are using helicopters to locate the drone and its operator. Meanwhile, flights are resuming with a special permit for night flights until 05:00 (Greek time).

Incidents with drones near German airports have increased. In early October, a similar incident caused chaos at Munich Airport. The German government has announced the creation of a special coordination center to deal with drones and has authorized the police to shoot them down under certain conditions.
