Germany: CDU and SPD Reject Cooperation with AfD

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Germany have ruled out any cooperation with Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the repeat elections in municipalities of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The heads of the local organizations of the CDU and SPD in North Rhine-Westphalia announced that they will jointly oppose the candidates of the far right. Sarah Philipp, head of the Social Democrats, stated that they will support the CDU candidacy where needed, expecting the same from the other side.
The Prime Minister of the state, Hendrik Wüst (CDU), also ruled out any cooperation with the AfD, stating that the Christian Democrats know what to do in the event of a runoff on September 28 with an AfD candidate.
