Germany: Police Fatally Shoot Afghan Attacker

German police shot and killed a 27-year-old Afghan man in Wagen near Stuttgart after he attacked one of the officers with a knife. The incident occurred on Thursday when police attempted to arrest the man at his residence.
According to the Ulm prosecutor's office, the man resisted and attacked with a knife, injuring the officer. The police returned fire, fatally wounding the attacker. The injured officer is hospitalized but out of danger.
The 27-year-old Afghan had been sentenced to 10 months in prison for assault and battery and resided in a special facility in Baden-Württemberg. The state's Interior Minister, Токмас Stробл (CDU), stated that knife attacks have increased significantly.
