France: Municipal Elections Underway

France is holding the first round of municipal elections today. Approximately 48.7 million citizens are called to elect new municipal authorities across the country.

The second round of elections will be held next Sunday, March 22. Despite the local nature of municipal elections, the second round is expected to provide a first glimpse of political trends ahead of the presidential and legislative elections of 2027.
