France: Strikes Against Austerity Measures Put Pressure on Macron

France is gripped by strikes as citizens protest austerity measures, putting pressure on President Emmanuel Macron. Teachers, train drivers, pharmacists, and hospital staff are participating in the strikes, while students have blocked schools.
Unions are demanding the rejection of fiscal cuts, increased spending on public services, higher taxes for the wealthy, and the abandonment of the unpopular reform to raise the retirement age.
In Paris, metro services faced disruptions. Approximately 80,000 police officers and gendarmes have been deployed nationwide. Authorities estimate that up to 900,000 people are participating in the demonstrations.
The social unrest occurs amid a political crisis for Macron and Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, as they attempt to control public finances.
The mobilization targets 44 billion euros in austerity measures announced by the previous government.
Unions state they will continue the mobilizations until a suitable response is given.
