Galicia: Fisherman Discovers 3,000-Year-Old Gold Treasure

In 1976, a fisherman on Leiro beach in Galicia, José Vicente Somoza, accidentally discovered a 3,000-year-old gold treasure.
While digging on the beach, he found a clay pot containing the so-called 'Helmet of Leiro,' a hemispherical gold object weighing 270 grams and 19.5 centimeters in diameter. The object is decorated with intricate reliefs and concentric circles.
Despite its name, the fragility of the object suggests that it was likely a ritual object and a symbol of religious or political power from the Bronze Age.
