Brussels: Tear Gas at Farmers' Protest

Tensions flared outside the European Parliament in Brussels, with tear gas and water cannons used during a farmers' protest.

Hundreds of tractors and thousands of farmers demonstrated in the streets ahead of the European Union Summit, demanding lower production costs and changes to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

Police blocked roads, and the mobilization, involving approximately 400 tractors, took authorities by surprise. The farmers are calling for the preservation of the CAP with adequate funding and expressing their opposition to an agreement with Latin American countries.
