Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama studied at Harvard University with a scholarship from a Greek foundation, as revealed by Niki Tzavella.

According to a post by former ND State MP Niki Tzavella on X (formerly Twitter), she was responsible for selecting the then-Mayor of Tirana, Edi Rama, to study at Harvard with funds from a Greek foundation. Ms. Tzavella was the vice president of the foundation and responsible for selecting scholarship recipients from Southeast Europe.

The basic requirement for granting the scholarship was minority origin, which Edi Rama met, as his mother is Greek. Ms. Tzavella described her choice as a "major mistake", especially after Edi Rama's recent attack on Greek-American journalist John Defterios.

Ms. Tzavella's post sparked reactions in Greece, following Edi Rama's behavior towards John Defterios, a journalist with 30 years of experience at CNN.
