Ambassador Maria Papakyriakou is undertaking a series of information visits to German federal states in preparation for the Cypriot Presidency of the EU.

At an event at the Europahaus in Berlin, Ms. Papakyriakou stressed that the Presidency begins "in a period of increased geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges." Cyprus will focus on five areas of action: security and defense, strengthening EU competitiveness, EU enlargement, an EU of values, and negotiation of the medium-term financial program.

Christoph Wolfrum, Director of European Affairs at the German Foreign Ministry, and Rüdiger Scholz, from the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy, expressed Germany's support for the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency.

Ms. Papakyriakou plans to visit all 15 German federal states by June.
