Switzerland is considering a ban on social media for children, following Australia's recent ban for users under 16. The country's Interior Minister, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, stated that Switzerland needs to do more to protect children from the dangers of social media.

In statements to the SonntagsBlick newspaper, Schneider said she is open to a ban on social media for younger ages. "We need to better protect our children," she emphasized.

Authorities are considering various options, such as banning children from using social media, controlling dangerous content, and managing algorithms that exploit the sensitivities of young people. Detailed discussions will begin in the new year, based on a related report.

Earlier this month, the parliament of the canton of Fribourg voted to ban children from using mobile phones in school until the age of 15.
