Prosecutor requests Sarkozy's release under surveillance

The prosecutor has requested the release of Nicolas Sarkozy under judicial supervision. Sarkozy has been in prison for 20 days. The proposal was made at the Paris Court of Appeal, where the former French president's appeal is being heard.
According to prosecutor Damien Bruné, the risks of collusion with accomplices or exerting pressure on witnesses support the request for judicial supervision.
Sarkozy stated that his imprisonment is "very harsh" and "exhausting." He was convicted in connection with the financing of his 2007 election campaign by the Gaddafi regime.
The court's decision is expected this afternoon.
