Administrative Inquiry into Louvre Heist Announced
Share on:

The French government has announced an administrative inquiry into the Louvre heist. Culture Minister Rachida Dati attributed the incident to the “neglect” of security at French cultural institutions over the past decades.

Speaking on channel M6, Dati rejected accusations of government negligence, arguing that her predecessors had not acted sufficiently. She stated that authorities and the Louvre's management had identified security weaknesses even before the Audit Office report.

The minister assured that security systems functioned during the robbery. Following a meeting with Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, it was decided to strengthen security measures around cultural institutions.

Nuñez will send a directive to regional prefects to reinforce security measures. The decision was made at an emergency meeting at the Interior Ministry to determine what worked and what did not during the robbery.
