Protests have erupted in Switzerland following the death of a 17-year-old who died in a scooter accident while trying to escape from the police.

Reports indicate that police forces clashed with protesters in Lausanne, who were throwing Molotov cocktails. Authorities are trying to prevent the escalation of violence.

The incident comes amid increased scrutiny of the police, following the suspension of four officers due to racist and sexist messages.

The 17-year-old, named Marvin M, died when he crashed into a garage wall while trying to escape from the police on a stolen scooter. A criminal investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the accident.

According to police, approximately 100 youths gathered and caused damage, while 150-200 people set up barricades and set fire to garbage bins. Police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets.

Lausanne's municipal security councilor, Pierre-Antoine Hildbrand, stated that the protests are using the death of the young man as a pretext to attack law enforcement.

Lausanne authorities are trying to prevent further outbreaks of violence.
