Attica Fires: Improved Situation, Arson Investigation Underway

The fire in Eastern Attica, burning for a second day, shows a markedly improved situation after an overnight battle by firefighters and aerial water drops.
Tragically, the fire resulted in the loss of life of an elderly man in Togani and caused extensive damage. Many houses have been completely burned or damaged.
According to ERT, the fire is described as receding, but there are many scattered outbreaks and the risk of rekindling is high due to strong winds.
The Deputy Mayor of Saronikos, Stavros Petropoulos, denounced arson, stating that a gas canister was found in Agios Nikolaos Anavyssou, where a new outbreak of fire started.
The settlements of Drosia, Charvalo, Maliasteka, Agiasma, Dimolaki, Sinterina, ATE, Palia Fokaia, Legrena, Charakas, Triantafyllia, Thymari, Katafigi, Feriza Olympos, Agios Nikolaos and Mavro Lithari have been evacuated.
