Thousands gathered in Birmingham's Centenary Square for the second consecutive year, anticipating a fireworks display that never happened.

Misled by advertisements and social media posts, crowds braved the cold temperatures to welcome 2026, only to find that the event was fake.

Videos circulating on TikTok showed disappointed citizens leaving, while police informed attendees that no display would take place.

Police had warned about the rumors, emphasizing that there were no official fireworks events planned by the municipality. They also pointed out that similar incidents had occurred in the past, causing confusion and disappointment.

Authorities urged the public to be cautious about information circulating online and to report any misleading posts in order to avoid security problems and traffic congestion.

It is noted that a fireworks show has not taken place in Birmingham city center since 2017.
