Istanbul Bans Feeding Stray Dogs in Public Areas

The Istanbul Governorship has issued a circular banning the feeding of stray dogs in public areas, citing public health concerns.
According to the circular, signed by Governor Davut Gül and based on a decision by the Provincial Animal Protection Committee on July 2, 2025, uncontrolled feeding leads to an increase in the population of insects and rodents and contributes to environmental pollution.
The ban applies to schools, hospitals, airports, places of worship, parks, gardens, streets, and playgrounds.
The circular calls on municipalities to accelerate the collection, sterilization, and reintegration of stray dogs, as well as their transfer to shelters or natural habitats.
