A six-year-old girl was rescued by police in Brazil after spending her entire life locked in a room. The child was found in a state of neglect in the city of Sorocaba, in the state of São Paulo.

According to the Brazilian news agency Universo Online, the police received an anonymous tip regarding the child's well-being. The little girl had never been to school, had not been vaccinated, and did not know how to speak. Child protection counselor Ligia Guerra stated that the girl was "apathetic and dazed by everything" and that her hair was "tangled" and looked "like it had never been washed."

Police confirmed that the child only ate liquids and communicated with sounds. She was taken to a hospital for examination and then to a juvenile home. Her parents were arrested and charged with illegal detention. Police chief Renata Zanin reported that the mother "showed absolutely no remorse" during questioning.
