Sudan Gurung: The DJ Who Led Gen Z in Nepal's Protests

Sudan Gurung, a 36-year-old activist and head of the NGO Hami Nepal, has been at the center of recent protests in Nepal. The demonstrations began as a reaction to the ban on social media platforms and allegations of corruption in the government of K.P. Sharma Oli.
Initially, the government banned Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, and X, but later lifted the ban. However, the protests escalated, leading to the resignation of Prime Minister Oli.
Sudan Gurung, through the NGO Hami Nepal, mobilized the youth, using social networks to coordinate the protests. The NGO, which he founded in 2020, initially aimed to provide assistance to the earthquake victims of 2015, when he himself lost his son.
Before his involvement in activism, Gurung was a nightclub owner and DJ.
