Nigeria: At Least 9 Killed in Borno Ambush

At least nine soldiers have been killed in an ambush in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria. The convoy was hit by a landmine near the Bindowdul community, about 20 kilometers from the town of Karet.
The incident occurred on Sunday. Local officials reported that "terrorists planted a mine" on the road, resulting in the explosion of an armored vehicle and subsequent gunfire.
Abba Kaka Toodja, a member of a local militia, said nine soldiers were killed and five were seriously injured. Northeastern Nigeria has been facing a jihadist insurgency for 16 years, with Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) causing deaths and displacements.
The US launched airstrikes against ISWA jihadists in Nigeria on Christmas Day.
