At least 25 people have been killed in two jihadist attacks in northeastern Nigeria, according to AFP. The attacks are attributed to Boko Haram and took place in Adamawa State.

According to a local official, gunmen believed to be from Boko Haram attacked the market of Siwari, killing 21 people. The attackers looted the market, stealing food, animals, and motorcycles.

Another attack was reported in neighboring Hong, also in Adamawa. A resident of Hong reported that three soldiers and one woman were killed.

The increase in violence by jihadist groups in Nigeria has provoked a reaction from the United States, which conducted airstrikes in Sokoto State on Christmas Day.

Since 2009, jihadist violence in Nigeria has claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people and displaced approximately two million, according to the UN.
