Myanmar: At Least 17 Killed in Airstrike on Market

At least 17 people have been killed in an airstrike by the Myanmar military on a village market in the western part of the country, Rakhine State. The Arakan Army (AA) reported that 17 civilians were killed in Yoe Ngu village. The Ponnagyun Youth Association (PYA) puts the death toll at 18.
PYA President Pie Phyo Naing described a horrific scene with destroyed buildings and scattered bodies. Civil society organizations are warning of a worsening crisis in Rakhine State, bordering Bangladesh.
The Myanmar military is accused of war crimes against civilians, using Chinese and Russian-made aircraft. Myanmar has been in a civil war since the February 2021 coup.
