Malaysia: Massive Fire Destroys Village, Displaces 9,000

A massive fire has destroyed a coastal village in the Sabah state of Malaysia, forcing over 9,000 residents to flee their homes. The fire broke out on Sunday (19/4) in the Sandakan region.
At least 1,000 homes were completely destroyed, but no deaths or injuries were reported. The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department was notified of the fire around 01:32 local time. 37 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
Sandakan Police Chief George Abd Rakman said the disaster affected 9,007 residents. The fire spread to approximately 1,000 floating homes, covering a total area of 40 acres.
