Ecuadorian authorities have deployed 10,000 troops to combat drug trafficking gangs in key areas of the country. This move comes in response to a surge in violence linked to clashes between gangs connected to Mexican and Colombian cartels.

Ecuador has become a drug transit hub between Colombia and Peru. President Daniel Noboa's government, with support from the United States, is seeking to strengthen security forces.

Hundreds of special forces members have been deployed to the city of Guayaquil, a major port, to ensure coastal security. Similar reinforcements have been sent to Manta, a key fishing port.

The Ministry of Defense has stated that it will deal severely with anyone who endangers the country's security.
