Iran: Water Scarcity Warning for Tehran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned of a severe water shortage in Tehran by September due to excessive water consumption. According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, the country is already facing shortages in electricity, gas, and water.
Pezeshkian emphasized that if cooperation to control consumption is not achieved, the dams may run dry. The head of the Environmental Protection Organization, Sina Ansari, stated that Iran has been facing drought conditions for the past five years, while the Meteorological Organization recorded a 40% decrease in rainfall.
Ansari pointed out that neglecting sustainable development has led to environmental problems. Mohsen Ardakani, head of the Tehran Province Water and Wastewater Company, stated that 70% of the capital's residents consume more than 130 liters of water per day.
Pezeshkian rejected a proposal for work stoppages, considering it not a solution to the water scarcity problem.
